Loraine Rodriguez Payan, O.D.

Dr. Loraine Rodriguez Payan is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She moved with her family to Houston at the age of 6 years old. Growing up on the southeast side of Houston, Loraine attended Dobie High School where she graduated in 1988 with Honors. She was awarded an academic excellence scholarship to attend the University of Houston where she began to pursue her interests in Biology and Optometry.

She completed her Bachelor of Science in Optometry and continued studies at the University of Houston College of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. During her final year of studies at the College of Optometry Dr. Payan complete externship programs with the US Army at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and Bellaire Contact Lens associates.

Dr. Payan moved to San Antonio soon after graduation and practiced there with Master Eye Associates for about a year. Missing Houston and her family brought her back where she began working with several different optometrists throughout Houston, Katy and Copperfield areas. She also spent about a year working with an ophthalmologist assisting with pre and post operative care of patients with cataracts, laser procedures and diseases of the eyes.

After 7 years of practice in other optometry offices, she opened her own private practice in August 2004. Dr. Payan believes in taking the time necessary to find out what your personal visual demands are and helping you to find the best way to help you achieve clear, comfortable vision throughout your busy day.

Dr. Payan is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, University of Houston Alumni Organization, & the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Payan has been married to Jose A.Payan since 1999 and settled into the Copperfield area to begin raising their two boys Nikolas born in 2000 and Lucas born in 2003. Jose who is a proud veteran of the US Army is a busy student at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He will graduate in 2009 and join the practice.

Jose has over 12 years experience in the eye care field. Being trained in the U.S. Army at Brooke Army Medical Center as an ophthalmological assistant, he has worked in just about every setting in the eye care field, from surgery to the optical.

In the military he worked at Optometry Clinic and later assisted in the opening of the first military Opometry/Ophthalmology combined clinic at the new Brooke Army Medical Center. After serving his duty in the military, he joined a well established practice in San Antonio as a lead surgical assistant to a glaucoma specialist. Once deciding that school was a goal for him to complete, he and Dr. Payan moved to Houston to begin this phase of their lives.

He has previously worked at two of the largest ophthalmology practices in Houston, while completing his Bachelors in Biology, assisting doctors in cataract, glaucoma, and retinal surgeries. As well as working in the diagnostic departments doing precise measurments for these ocular surgeries and diagnostic procedures.

Jose is currently attending the University of Houston College of Optometry and uses his expierence in the eye care field to frame style patients & fabricate the glasses necessary for our patients.
